Document Summary

Sociology- systemic study of society and social interaction. Society- group of people whose members interact, reside in a definable area, and share a culture. Culture- includes the group[s shared practices, values, and beliefs. Different things sociologists study: everyday conversations, how texting has changed culture, migration of language, or helping develop plans for the future. C. wright mills defined sociological imagination as how individuals understand their own and others" pasts in relation to history and social structure. Sociologists are able to examine hat influences behavior, attitudes, and culture. Their own biased and pre-conceived ideas do not influence their studies by applying systematic and scientific methods to this process. Cultural patterns and social forces put pressure on people to select one choice over another. Sociologists try to identify these general patterns by examining the behavior of large groups of people living in the same society and experience the same societal pressures.
