People are ranked on the amount of scarce resources they control or prestige. Social stratification: organization of society in which people are ranged according to resources and prestige/ hiearchiary of society. Lenski"s view that society become more straftied w/ ^ wealth and complex. Education can ^ power: social status: the amt of honor and prestige a person receives from people in the community/ position in stratification, par-tay- an organization in which decisions are made to reach certain goals/ acheiev . Affect society socioeconomic status: an assessment of status that takes into account a person"s income, education, occupation. Herbert spencer-superior people educate themselves to become superior- natural selection marx- strat -> revloultion. Expect for life garbage men b/c it is easier.
