Sociology: scientific study of social relationships, social institutions, and society. Divorce rate is coming down from 1980 as is marriage rate. Crime rate was highest ever in 1980 in the u. s. and is coming down. Suicide: white males are most likely to commit suicide (access to guns, more violent, less attachment to community, and more pressure to succeed). Critical thinking is to go through the cognitive process both to analyze a situation or information and to arrive at careful, precise judgments. Social network: people depend on who they know in times of need. Macro (social institutions) deals with society on a large scale (large scale unemployment, war, divorce, etc. ). Micro (social interactions) deals with interpersonal relationships and how people behave in social situations. Sociology expanded idea of exchange (exchange things other than money and expect something in return for a relationship to form). Anthropology (family, comparative, functionalism/exchange) compares people in a different society.
