Document Summary

The law is a very particular social institution. Institutions that influences the entirety of your life: education, the media. We can also think about how some people perceive the law. Philosophers and individual people often frame the law as something other than this world : natural law- the idea that the law comes from some higher place, rule of law- the idea. Can we even define the law: -people tend to interchangeably refer to both the actual law itself (statutes) and the social institutions that are associated with it. Law is formal when it deals with rules and regulations that are written and enforced via specified guidelines. Where there is always some element of discussion to be dealt with. This has important implications when we ask the question does the rule of law exist in a given society? : early anthropologists and the definition of savages.
