MUL 2010 Chapter Notes - Chapter 1: Major Scale, Tempo Rubato, Legato
Document Summary
Music is an art based on the organization of sounds in time. Any sound is a result of vibrations in the air set in motion by the activation of a sounding body. Tone - produced by definite and steady vibrations. Pitch - the relative highness or lowness of a tone"s frequency. As it ascends, it goes up the staff. As it descends, it goes down the staff. The way a pitch rises or falls helps to create melodies. The precise pitch is determined by the frequency of its vibrations. The faster the frequency, the higher the pitch. The slower the frequency, the lower the pitch. The distance between two pitches is an interval. The smallest interval that occurs when two identical pitches are played one after the other is called a unison. If you play the white keys from one c to the next, you are playing major scale.
