Document Summary

Rock wasn"t a grass roots phenomenon, it instantly became a national phenomenon. There were still regional differences in music throughout the united states. The most effective way of reaching large audiences was with a broadcasting network. At first music on the radio was always live, it was considered unethical to play records. As lots of people started turning to the television, this gave regional radio stations the chance to play what they wanted. Tin pan alley was an area of new york city where the sheet music business was highly concentrated. Has now become a term for a way of doing the music business today. Very heavily created sectional verse chorus format where the sectional-chorus part is what listeners will recognize and the sectional verse part is an introduction that sets the scene for the song. Musicals and movies were used by the alley to get their songs recorded so they could sell them.
