The sumer of love was also the beginning of the psychedelic movement and the diversification of rock. The psychedelic movement was all about finding new approaches and alternative lifestyles than what was considered the norm. The psychedelic movement was greatly influenced by the american civil rights movement and vietnam. Drugs played a central role in the psychedelic movement especially lsd which was used in combination with music. +music was designed to enhance lsd trips rather than lsd being used to enhance the music listening experience. Hippies often associated drugs and particular forms of drug use with eastern religion and spirituality. The music of the beatles and the beach boys became much more complex as the 1960s went on and the musicians became more skilled.
