Chapter 1: the building blocks of relations ships. Solitude in moderation is ok: people suffer when they are deprived of close contact with others, the core of our social nature is intimate relations. The inclusion of others in the self scale: intimate vs causal: commitment. All of these coexist with one another ex: struggling marriage. Mark leary we need interactions with people to survive. Humans need to be in close relationships= when they are not in any there are issues. We have to be with people to care for us, the basic way for us to survive: when are basic need of intimate relationships are satisfied, we stop looking for them, quality over quantity. Loose connection people will strive to fix it ( want to be with people) People in relationships= healthier: married people less likely to die from the top 10 causes of death, widows and widowers are more likely to die right after spouse dies.
