Psychology is the systematic study of behavior and experience (perceptions) Few things are true of all people all the time. Variation among individuals reflects hereditary and environment. Free will the belief that behavior is caused by an individual"s independent decision-making. Determinism the assumption that everything that happens has identifiable and observable causes. Being a psychologist requires a graduate degree. Being a psychologist can mean a lot of different things. Advanced degrees in psychology (phd or psyd); help people with mental and emotional problems; use psychological testing to diagnose/treat. Other individual service providers who are not psychologists. Psychiatrist (md with residence in psychiatry; prescribe drugs; may do brief therapy) Study behavior in the workplace to help organizations. Can use social, cognitive, and motivational psychology principles to describe, explain and potentially improve workplace behavior and attitudes. Facilitates design of machinery and equipment so the average user can operate them efficiently and safely.
