Germ theory= marked the beginning of the conquest of infectious diseases some diseases were contagious and could be transmitted from person to person. Theory of multiple causation= used to explain disease occurrence in both infectious and noninfectious diseases. Disease agent= any factor that needs to be present (or absent) for disease to occur. Epidemiologists= those who study the occurrence of disease in populations. Hippocrates= the father of medicine and the first epidemiologist because he recorded his observations about the spread of disease in populations.
