Group hate- the distaste and aversion that people feel toward working in groups. Groups are everywhere: primary groups- groups that provide members with a sense of belonging and affection. Social groups to socialize and enjoy each other"s company, whether face-to-face or online: secondary groups- groups that meet principally to solve problems. Can involve long-term involvement, like support groups or work groups. Can also be short-term groups like group project groups. Students who study in small groups perform at higher intellectual levels, learn better and have better attitudes toward subject matter. Need to be able to work in a team. People serve on committees in religious or political organizations. ++++groups make higher quality decisions than individuals: group can produce more innovative ideas than indiv. Social facilitation- the tendency for people to work harder and do better when others are around: small group work promotes critical thinking and leads to better decisions. Subject to scrutiny we recognize our own flaws.
