Chapter on how we move from cultural contexts. (had to move within their own country due to famine, war, conflict, etc. ) >54% of people across the globe were living in urban areas in 2014. Migration is driving much of the increase in urbanization , making cities much more diverse places in which to live. Personal-contextual dialectic the personal decisions you make on whether or not to adapt to your context. In a new cultural context people may feel the need to act in ways that feel different from their own personal values and expectations. Ex. feel you should act in a certain way or celebrate a certain holiday. A muslim woman may feel that she can"t wear her chador in certain u. s. contexts and thus can"t express her religious identity. Privilege-disadvantage dialectic some people move because of choice or because of economic benefits, promotions etc. whilst others have to make intercultural transitions due to conflictive contexts.
