Psychoanalysis: treatment method conceived by freud for alleviation of emotional problems. For freud all behaviors resulted from collision of forces within a closed system. Don"t take every sense as proof: don"t dismiss him all together. Tri-part model: the mind consists of 3 operating systems- id (instincts and impulses), ego (pilot/peace negotiator), and superego (morals). Our conscious is what scolds/shames/guilts: economic model: system for production, distribution and use of libido-motivational fuel of personality, instincts: inborn biological drives, libido: life force that includes sexual love but transcends biological events. Incorporation, identification and wish fulfillment: anal/muscular (1-2 years). Reality principle, secondary process though: urethral (2-3 years), phallic (3-5 years). Little boys experience erotic feelings towards mother and hatred towards father. Conflict between id and ego: latency (6-12 years). Decline in sexual interests: adolescence (12-18 years), adulthood.
