PSY 2510 Chapter Notes - Chapter 1: Nerve Growth Factor, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Brainstem
Document Summary
They are tiny cells responsible for participating in functions related to the nervous system. In our brain, there are millions of neurons, it is estimated that we have about 80 million, at least at the time of birth. As we grow, the number of neurons begins to decrease and after 80 years, 30% of our neurons will be lost. Throughout the day, we lose and regenerate neurons constantly. Through the regeneration processes carried by a neuron, new connections are generated, and this causes the process called neurogenesis, which results in the birth of new neurons throughout the person"s life. People daily perform numerous behaviors that cause us neuronal impairment and therefore cognitive impairment. These behaviors such as drinking, smoking, not eating or sleeping well, tension or stress, will lead the person to the decrease of neurons earlier. From cognifit we want to help you regenerate your neurons, creating new connections and training your cognitive capacity.
