Now contains gorilla, chimp, and human lineages. Hominin features appeared at different times, not all at once. Early hominins have shared primitive (ancestral) and derived (newly-evolved) traits. Longer femoral neck = pushes proximal femur out = valgus knee: causes increased stress on the hip joint ii. Larger femoral head used to absorb stress: shape of the pelvis, bipeds eventually need a larger acetabulum (hole in hip that holds femur) to hold their larger femoral head. Lots of time spent on one leg, more gluteal muscles attach the leg to the side of the pelvis, Heel -> outside of foot -> ball -> big toe this helps reduce fatigue fractures: non-bipedal: transverse arch only.
