Cells join together to make up tissues. Organs work together as an organ system. The basic structural unit of the human body is the cell. Almost all cells contain the same organelles, but cell structure varies according to the type of job cells must perform. Epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissues are the four primary types of tissues in the human body. Each type of organ system is affected by nutrient intake. From the cells of the gastrointestinal tract, water-soluble nutrients are absorbed into capillaries and fat-soluble nutrients are absorbed into lymph vessels, which eventually connect to the bloodstream. Blood delivers nutrients and oxygen to cells and picks up wastes as it circulates around the body. The urinary system, includes the kidneys, is responsible for filtering the blood, removing body wastes, and maintaining the chemical composition of the blood. The nervous system allows for communication and regulation. Vitamin b-12 is part of the insulation that surrounds neurons.
