Romanticism was a self-conscious break from the ideals of the enlightenment. Beethoven is identified as the 1st great creative romantic. Romantic era grew out of the french revolution. I am different from all the men i have seen. If i am not better, at least i am different . Artists felt more and more cut off from society. All ppl were not equal or free, despite the french revolution. Orchestration - making music more refined and artistic. Composers started to communicate their intentions v precisely. Composers wanted to make the instruments sing". Could make a living as a performer. Women performers became more popular and common (but mostly private influence)
