You can use questionnaires then add up scores. Defining wealth : ask about salary in $ amount. A self-report measure operationalizes a variable by recording people"s answers to ?s about themselves in a questionnaire or interview. In child research, self-reports may be replaced w/ parent or teacher reports. An observational measure operationalizes a variable by recording observable behaviors or physical traces of behaviors. Operationalize happiness by recording how many times a person smiles. A physiological measure operationalizes a variable by recording biological data such as brain activity, hormone levels, or heart rate. fmri, eeg, and emg can be used. Any construct can be operationalized in several ways. It"s best to use all 3 then compare them to see if they produce similar results for a single construct. The levels of categorical/nominal variables are categories.
