Confidence interval for 1 - 2: we need to round the value of df down to obtain the appropriate t-value from the table. Ha: 1 - 2 d0: we derived test statistics from the confidence interval for 1 - 2. It is similar to testing the population mean in chapter 9, however, testing the difference of 2 population mean is our goal in this chapter. Test statistic for testing 1 - 2: the value of the test statistic for a hypothesis test concerning the difference between 2 population means 1 - 2: ex: consider the following competing hypotheses & accompanying sample data drawn independently from normally distributed populations. 2 = 15. 2 n1 = 20 n2 = 20: using the p-value approach, test whether the population means differ at the 5% significance level. Since the population sds are known, we use the z-test approach. We need to use 2-tailed z test because this is testing the difference (or equal).
