A theory aims to explain and predict social psychological phenomena: should be precise, explain all relevant info, generate research that can support or disconfirm them. Basic research: increase understanding of human behavior. Applied research: increase understanding of real-world events and contribute to the solution of social problems. Construct validity: how effective operational definitions manipulate or measure corresponding conceptual variables. Correlation research: examines associations between variables measured by correlation coefficient: positive, negative. Looking for cause and effect: require control group and conditioned group.
