Studying research methods is important people it improves people"s reasoning about real-life events and information present by the media and other resources. Before conducting a new research, it is important to see what research has already been done on the idea surrounding the subject. A theory aims to explain and predict social psychological phenomena: should be precise, explain all relevant info, generate research that can support or disconfirm them. Basic research: increase understanding of human behavior. Applied research: increase understanding of real-world events and contribute to the solution of social problems. Construct validity: how effective operational definitions manipulate or measure corresponding conceptual variables. Descriptive research: social psychologists record how frequently or typically people think, feel or behave in a particular way: observational research. Correlation research: examines associations between variables measured by correlation coefficient: positive, negative. Looking for cause and effect: require control group and conditioned group.
