Specific study of how individuals behave, think, and feel in social context. Do groups make riskier decisions or more cautious decisions than individuals: answer (riskier) Other people do not have to be real or present to actually change your behavior. 5 themes in social psychology: people construct their social words, people underestimate impact on social situations, people need to view themselves in a positive light, people need to feel connected to other people, missing the 5th one. Sociology tends to focus on the group level. Social psychology tends to focus on individual. Interactionist perspective- behavior a function of the interaction. Also time of crisis and heated debate. Acceptance of many methods of investigation in addition to laboratory experiments. Integration of both hot and cold perspectives: hot focuses on emotion and motivation, cold focuses on cognition. One of the more well-known case studies (phineas gage) Correlational method: vip correlation does not prove causation. Establishes degree of relationship (correlation) between items.
