Document Summary

Started during/after the renaissance when people started to be categorized under things like skin color etc. once it became obvious that variation was everywhere. Idea that we could be put into taxonomical groups, came in the 18th century once the europeans had discovered variation. German anatomist classed people into races once he discovered the 5 distinct different kinds of skulls there are in the world. But then an anthropologist (boaz) found that skull sizes differ by the places you were raised thus saying these things change over time and is not a taxonomical system. It was later also found that so-called races only accounted for 5-10% of genetic variations so that o(cid:271)(cid:448)iously (cid:449)as(cid:374)"t a great syste(cid:373) of (cid:272)ategorizatio(cid:374). Strongest factor in determining skin pigmentation is exposure to uv radiation.
