PHYS 211 Chapter Notes - Chapter 7: Friction, Rolling Resistance
Document Summary
Secion 7. 1: interacing objects interacion = mutual inluence of two objects on each other acion/reacion pair = if a exerts a force on b and b exerts a force on a system = objects that we want to analyze. Newton"s third law: every acion occurs as one member of an acion/reacion pair of forces. The two members of an acion/reacion pair act on two diferent objects. The two members of an acion/reacion pair are equal in magnitude but opposite in direcion. The forces are equal but the acceleraions are not. Acceleraion constraints = well deined relaionship between two or more objects. If a and b are moving together, then their acceleraions are constrained to be equal. Stretched of molecular bonds in rope like a spring. Stretching of billions of molecular springs causes tension. Tension is constant in a rope that is in equilibrium. Tension in a massless string is constant.
