PSY 12000 Chapter Notes - Chapter 5: Umami, Basilar Membrane, Depth Perception
Document Summary
Chapter 5: vision: building a world of color and form, define sensation and perception, and discriminate between the two: Light: the small part of the electromagnetic spectrum that is processed by the visual system. Visible is a small part of the electromagnetic spectrum. Classified by 3 main properties: wavelength, intensity, purity i. Changes in wavelength are experienced as changes in color (hue) Wavelength: the physical distance from one energy cycle to the next. Intensity: amplitude, determined by the amount of light falling on an object. Changes in this are experienced as increases or decreases in brightness. Brightness: the aspect of the visual experience that changes with light intensity; in general as the intensity of light increases, so does its perceived brightness. After light hits an object, some wavelengths are absorbed and the remaining wavelengths reflect outward, where they eventually enter the eyes.
