Addict behave in ways that interfere with supportive social relationships: barrowing money, gambling, shopping and eating are few potentially addictive behaviors as well as smoking cigarettes and injecting heroin, addiction is a social illness. The sociological perspective is the ability to see the strange in the familiar. Law enforcement and psychologist are more interested in the motives that caused a group or individual to act a certain way. Sociologist focus more on the environment and factors that may have led to the group or individual to act as they did. Sociology is the scientific study of human society. The sociological perspective is seeing the general in the particular. Theories are explanations: it is undignified for scientist to guess at something. Durkheim"s theory of suicide led to the strange hypothesis that those with more freedom and autonomy would commit suicide more often. Durkheim"s study supported his theory in every case and today, evidence continues to support it.
