Outcomes Lecture 2: Prokaryotes
1. Review lytic and lysogenic viral cycles before practicing this material. Which
cycle results in new phages being produced?
2. Review from 115: osmosis: (115:topic 6) and mitosis vs binary fission
(115:topic 10)
3. Sequence prokaryotic reproduction & diversifying mechanisms (include
horizontal vs vertical gene transmission).
4. CC genetic recombination mechanisms in prokaryotes transformation,
transduction, and conjugation, (and mutation.)
5. CC types of prokaryotic metabolisms.
6. CC Bacteria and Archaea. After lecture 3 you will compare all three domains.
Hint: start with how cell walls (indicated by gram stain and structure), internal
cell structures, and flagella differ.
7. Prior to next lecture: review 115 topic 4 origin of life: specifically
endosymbiosis.
