Document Summary

Behaviorism- people should be studied from the outside & there"s a belief that the causes of behavior can be directly observed. Determining how behavior is a function of one"s environment. Empiricism- experience is the direct product of reality. Reality determines personality, the structure of the mind and behavior. This implies that at birth our mind is essentially empty / blank slate. Babies can identify who their mother is; temperament; we are born with different instincts (male and female babies are born with different brains) Associationism- many things are associated because one causes the other. This is why we confuse correlation with causation. Hedonism- organisms learn for two reasons: to seek pleasure and avoid pain. Utilitarianism- the best society creates the most happiness for the largest number of people; this is more important than truth, freedom, or dignity. Habituation- simplest form of behavior change as a result of experience (we go back to how we were feeling before)
