Classification system- used to subdivide or organize a set of objects. Diagnosis- identification or recognition of a disorder on the basis of its characteristics; enables the clinician o refer to the base of knowledge that has accumulated with regard to that disorder; does mean that etiology is known. Dimensional classification- a continuum; describes the objects of classifications in terms of continuous dimension. But both dsm and icd have same problems. Culture and classification- there are things in some cultures that come across as abnormal in other cultures. Dsm-v includes a glossary of culture bound syndromes. Reliability- the consistency of measurements including diagnostic decisions. Limitations of the classification system- it may hinder the consideration of promising. Interrater reliability- agreement amongst raters alternative classifications systems. Interviews- most commonly used procedure in psych assessment. Provide an opp to obtain people"s own description of their own problems. Mmpi- is a paper and pencil test. Rorschach test- people being trained for psychodynamic perspective.
