Personality disorder- dsm 5 emphasizes duration of the pattern and the social impairment associated with the traits in question. Social motivation- 2 central motives; affiliation and power. Affiliation- the desire for close relationships with other people. Power- the desire for impact, prestige, or dominance. Cognitive perspectives- pervasive distortions or misperceptions of self. Epidemiologists have a difficult time pinning down the prevalence of pd bc . Believes others intend to harm or deceive. Fear that info will be used against them. Is quick to rebut in an angry manner. Lack of desire for relationships (has few friends) Limited number of friends and relatives even if they want more.
