PSY 321 Chapter Notes - Chapter 15: Organization Development, Behavioural Sciences, Team Building
Document Summary
Focus is facilitating organizational changes that enhance both organizational performance and individual development. Rooted in the theories and methodology of the behavioral sciences. For most organizations, the competitive environment changes so quickly that they have to be able to adapt to keep up with it and remain competitive. No external pressure for change exists and there are no concrete strategic reasons for changing. Highly abstract process that cannot be readily simulated or modeled in a laboratory setting. Unfreezing - organization beings to recognize the need for change. Transformation (change) - represents tangible changes in the way an organization operates. May require that employees do things very differently than in the past so there has to be a readiness for change within an organization. Refreezing - changes that are enacted during the second step become a relatively permanent part of an organization"s behavioral repertoire. May be difficult because employees may be resistant to the organizational changes.
