AJ 102 Chapter 4: AJ 102 why study ethics
Document Summary
The central purpose is to learn how to determine the "right thing to do" we make ethical decisions all the time whether we embrace them or not. Think of some of the ethical decisions you made in the past few weeks or months. We are all making decisions that can be evaluated against ethical values. Hence we also judge other people"s actions as either right or wrong. All who work in the criminal justice system in the field must pay special attention to the ethical problems that arise in their professional lives. Let"s shift direction a bit, and look at the system from an ethical point of view. Asking for example if something is legal is not quite the same question as asking whether anything is right. At some point in the legal process, individuals make judgments which can be measured and judged as either ethical or immoral.
