PSY 130 Chapter Notes - Chapter 7: Psych
Document Summary
Most personality study starts with a theory: a general explanation of the relationship between objects or events. Those memories vary in the continuum of events or phenomena they represent. Others, like the main personality theories explored in this book, are very unique. Psychologists have used freud"s psychoanalytic theory to explain topics as diverse as what causes psychological disorders, why people succumb to religion, and how funny certain jokes are. However, studies of personality typically deal with much narrower theory implementations. For example, they may speculate on the reasons why certain people are more motivated than others to succeed, or the relationship between a parent"s behavior and a child"s self-esteem level. Thinking about the wider theories, such as freud"s, may be useful as collections of more simple c theories that share similar ideas about the nature of human personality: there are at least two good theoretical attributes. Next, coming up with a good concept is parsimonious.
