Document Summary

Band in the middle called fibrous skeleton of the heart. Electrically separates atrial myocardium from ventricular myocardium. Atrioventricular valve separates atrium from ventricle (goes atria to ventricle) Av valve: tricuspid valve on right side of heart (3 flaps) Av valve: bicuspid valve on left side of heart (2 flaps) also called mitral valve. Two circuits: pulmonary circuit and systemic circuit. Pulmonary circuit powered by right side of the heart, pumps from lungs to heart. Systemic circuit powered by left side of heart, pumps to rest of body. Semilunar valves: in the aorta and pulmonary trunk. Systemic veins have valves also b/c blood pressure is very low and it would flow backwards if not for the valves. Superior vena cava (bp = 0) carries blood from head, neck, arms into right atrium. Right atrium to right ventricle, ventricle contracts, goes through semilunar valve and pulmonary trunk. Goes to pulmonary arteries to the lungs.
