Congenital disorders of bone and cartilage: dysostoses - abnormalities in a single or group of bones, mutations in homeobox genes affect migration & condensation of primitive mesenchymal cells. Bone tumors: benign lesions >> malignant tumors. Involve axial skeleton > proximal femur, > humerus. Arthritis: osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease) - most common joint disease, degenerative disorder of articular cartilage, matrix breakdown exceeds synthesis. Involves wrist & finger tendon sheaths; mc soft tissue tumor of the hand. Mets to lung, bone, lns: only other sarcoma that goes to lns is alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma. Papule--solid raised lesion w/ distinct borders <1 cm. Crust--liquid debris that has dried on skin surface. Papillomagotosis--surface elevation caused by hyperplasia of dermal papillae. Parakeratosis--keratinization w/ retention of nulei (normal in mucous membranes)
