A psychological disorder, or abnormal behavior, is a psychological dysfunction associated with distress or impairment in functioning and a response that is not typical or culturally expected. Refers to a breakdown in a cognitive, emotional, or behavioral functioning. These problems are often considered to be on a continuum or a dimension rather than either present or absent. The criterion is satisfied if the individual is extremely upset; however, for some disorders, suffering and distress are absent by definition (such as with a person who feels elated during a manic episode).
