Microsoft standard outlining form is clear, precise, logical, and uses a specific set of symbols. A purpose statement divides into a minimum of two main points which divide into at least two sub points. If you cant divide a point into at least 2 sub points, the point does not need division or it is not substantial enough. Speech is an inverted pyramid, begin with your topic and narrow that down to your specific purpose statement, and develop main points from that purpose statement which goes down to sub points. Coherence- requires main points flow directly from the purpose statement. Sub points should also flow from the main points. Each primary sub point can be divided into secondary sub points. Allot enough time for each point, not necessarily equal.
