PSYC 221 Chapter Notes - Chapter 1: Narcissistic Personality Inventory, Emerging Adulthood And Early Adulthood, Grade Inflation
Document Summary
The evidence for generation we and against generation me. Behavior of young people has gotten better over the past 20 years. Narcissistic personality inventory (npi) used on college students. Critiques of twenge"s study: the validity of the npi as a measure of narcissism, reliance on college student samples to represent all emerging adults, contradictory data showing little or no rise in narcissism. Gender roles have changed in recent decades, the increase in narcissism twenge reports among females could simply reflect changes in gender roles. By definition, college students are wealthier, whiter, and more highly educated. Data is drawn only from college students at a 4-year school and only represent 20% of emerging adults. Other analyses conducted by other researchers have not reached same conclusion as twenge. Emerging adulthood is a time when optimism is especially high. Every generation of young people is more narcissistic than their elders. Young adults have both great excitement and signs of depression and anxiety.
