ANTH 161 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: Homo Sapiens, Boundary Marker, Imagined Community
Document Summary
Chapter 5: identify three reasons why anthropologists feel that the concept of race is a flawed system of classification, and give an example to support each reason. There are many reasons that anthropologists have decided that the concept of race is a flawed system of classification. Primarily, the concept of race is irrelevant because there are no biologically distinct human groups as all humans have 99. 9% of the same dna. There are not any clear differentiations between people of different colors or ethnicities. In fact, even the small differences that do occur in dna between humans are spread out throughout the world and occur between people in patterns that do not follow color or ethnicity (guest, 123). Secondly, the original theories regarding human species and migration have been proven false. It was originally thought there were several human species that migrated throughout the world and therefore created different races.
