Teaching: questioning child carefully to find out where they are coming from cognitively. Language: that parents use to engage child can be adjusted to suit age and situation. Materials: parents provide to foster creative play, enabling child to imagine, explore and interact with others. Monitoring: being aware of child"s activities throughout day. Manage: managing their child"s time to arranging playdates or other things to give child"s life structure. The ways in which parents engage in behaviors and have attitudes toward their children. Authoritarian parents; low in warmth, high in control, order children around without questioning. Children are dependent, low social competency, look to authority. Boys are hostile, girls set low goals. Permissive parents: high in warmth, low in control, few demands and rarely monitor.
