From a very young age, most boys are told to act like a man . Boys are taught to hide feelings and appear tough. Be aggressive, don"t back down, have lots of sex, make lots of money, be responsible and don"t cry. The oakland men"s project call these rigid expectations the. Boys have to prove they are in the box and fight people who tease them and say that they are not. Boys are constantly challenging each other, putting each other down, hitting each other and making sure everyone"s in the box. Boys change who they are to make sure they are perceived as manly and in the box. Parents reinforce this by constraining their expressions toward their sons like picking them up and kissing them. If you are rich and white male, you get away with more. The box creates a false sense of solidarity, making them assume they are equal with all other men.
