BIO 111 Chapter Notes - Chapter 24: Meristem, Plant Stem, Root Cap
Document Summary
24. 1 the plant body is organized and constructed in a distinctive way. Since plants are sessile: stems, leaves, and roots have structural adaptations that enable plants anchored to one spot to capture scarce resources, their ability to grow throughout their lifetimes enables them to respond to environmental cues. Plants have two systems: root system anchors the plant in place and has access to water and minerals. Plant types: monocots generally narrow-leaved plants, have their vascular system scattered randomly, eudicots generally broad-leaved plants, have their vascular system organized well in circles. The smaller one is the apical cell which turns into the embryo. The larger one is the basal daughter cell which turns into the suspensor. Then the apical cells form into the heart embryo stage and creates cotyledons. 24. 2 apical meristems build the primary plant body. Determinate growth growth that ceases when the adult state is reached (leaves, flowers) Indeterminate growth growth that continues until death of the organism.
