Socioeconomic status: an individual"s standing in a society based on individual and household income, education, gender, occupation, ethnicity and race, and other characteristics that exist within a broader cultural, social, political, and policy environment. Ses has a significant impact on a person"s health status and their ability to access healthcare services. Social determinants of health: the personal factors and community conditions that enable hinder access to health. Social determinants of health include place of residence, race and ethnicity, occupation and employment status, gender and sex, religion, education, and social capital. The reduced health in populations with lower ses is largely a function of economic, social, and political environments and is not caused by innate biological differences. Healthy disparity/inequality: an avoidable difference in health status between population groups. When a health inequality is considered to be unfair and unjust, it is classified as an inequity.
