Skirt chasers: why the media depicts the trans revolution in lipstick and heels. Antipathy directed towards trans women can be understood as a virulent form of misogyny---the cultural prejudices against femininity and women identification can actually be seen with extraordinary clarity when they are protected against a purportedly male body. She analyzes the mainstream media portrayal of male to female transsexuals and identifies two predominant representations. These portrayals highlight instances of hyperfeminity to assert the inauthenticity of transexual womens femininty. Serranos goal is to show how much representations are fueled by a pervasive sexism and the hypersexualization of all women"s bodies, whether or not they are transsexual. There is a misconception that all trans women want to be feminine. Because transsexuals threat to categories that enable traditional and oppositional sexism, the images and experiences of trans people are presented in the media in a way that reaffirms, rather than challenges, gender stereotypes.
