Small lens polished and smoothed made by solid rock crystals. Much less vulnerable to cracking compared to wood. Crystal lens inserted and a small piece of silk or white piece is painted with the brush for the pupil. Green outline around the pupil that shows extraordinary intensity. The realism of gyokugan is combined with anti realistic quality. There"s another layer of eye on top of the pair of eyes. Involves conceptualizing these sculptures and all made out of wood. Things are put inside of them that you can"t see. These unseen objects are important aspect to spirituality. Trying our best to look something like in the real world. Head of a guardian king, kamakura period, 13th c. Outside is harder to see as wood. Covered with cloth that is dipped with lacker. Given these wood sculptures, you can see a fancy crown with metal work. When you give a wooden figure, that intensify the illusion of realism.
