This is accompanied by other means by which soil is degraded such as toxic chemicals and a loss of biodiversity. Another problem is, if the human population continues to grow as projected, agriculture will have to double its production. Most of the best agriculture land will be converted to expand cities and suburbs to support a growing population. Soil can lose its fertility because of erosion.
