Once arriving, filipinos would settle near each other so that they could adjust more easily. Role of mass media (print + electronic) played important role in achieving their collective desires. Nurses migrated > nurses + other health personnel in philippines concerned > tried legislative ways to mandate nursing service in the filipino rural areas to keep new nursing graduates from immediately leaving for work abroad. Immigration act of 1965: created more equitable system of immigration. Origins system of immigration that favored immigration of: europeans to u. s. Established ceiling system involving numerical caps for immigrants in both hemispheres. Immediate family members of us citizens (spouses, parents, minor children) exempt from numerical caps. Most categories (4/7) reserved for family members, 2/7 for skilled immigrants.
