The id: only component present at birth contains basic drives to survive, reproduce, and act aggressively, operates completely in the unconscious, pleasure principle - all needs should be satisfied immediately. Oral stage: mouth is a source of tension reduction (e. g. eating) and pleasurable sensations (e. g. tasting, licking, sucking, basic conflict is weaning. Anal stage: major event is toilet training child must learn that there is an appropriate time and place for everything.
