HSC 4201 Chapter Notes - Chapter 7: Prenatal Care, Infant Mortality
Document Summary
Programs have been proposed to deal with problems associated with maternal, infant, and child health. Some are aimed at preventing or deducing the levels of maternal and infant morbidity and mortality, whereas others are aimed at the prevention or reduction of childhood morbidity and mortality. Federal government has more than 35 health programs in 16 different agencies to serve the needs of our nation"s children. Majority of these programs help meet the needs of children. Categorical programs mean they are only available to people who can be categorized into a specific group based on: disease, age, geography, financial need, or other variables. This means that too many children fall between the cracks and are not served. Some children require services from multiple programs which complicated the eligibility determination for each child: this can lead to an inefficient program of child health care.
