Document Summary
Part ix behind the model minority reading notes. Asian americans supposedly show how any minority can overcome institutionalized inequality. There was a june 2012 pew article that show asian americans are highly educated, have good work ethic, earn higher than average incomes: groups said this report was full of overgeneralizations. Another report showed that speci c ethnic groups (hmong, laos, etc) have low graduation rates, so the pew report ignored some of the most distressed communities. Cultural asian values : hard work, perseverance, strong family traditions, reverence for education, self-reliance, self-sacri ce. Asian american men portrayed as geniuses, nerd, shy, humble, passive, physically inferior. Lin was opposite from the asian man oppressive image, but could also exemplify what pew report said. The second generation: continuing signi cance of the model minority myth.
