Document Summary

Chapter 1 - life chemical, cellular and evolutionary foundations. Cognition - sensing something which is carried to the brain through impulses and nerves. Biomechanics - reaction to external cues, the movements. Experimentation - disciplined and controlled way in asking questions and finding answers in an unbiased manner. Controlled experiment are groups that have similar characteristics and then a variable is introduced to a test group , which makes it significantly different from the control group. When a lot of findings support a hypothesis, it becomes a theory. Darwin hypothesized that life evolved through natural selection. Walter alvarez - hypothesized that dinosaurs became extinct 66 million years ago because of a 11km diameter meteor slammed into earth. They thought of this occurrence because the sediments of dinos have a relatively high amount of iridium , an element mostly present in rocks falling from space but less in rocks on earth.
